One reply on “What’s a Buttress Flare? | Wood Talk 604”
Hey Fellas
I have been watching wood whisper since the beginning and have heard Marc plug the Wood Talk pod cast for years but never had any interest in podcast in general until recently.
My job requires a lot of travel and long drives. Recently a colleague and I discussion such drives when he commented “ thank god for pod casts”.
And being yours was the only one I could think of from memory, on a recent trip from New Haven to Erie, I decided to check it out ..
Now Im hooked and the back episodes are making long drives more bareable,, thanks for that!
But I digress , the reason I am writing in is to comment regarding “ sanding on the table saw “ and I do.
Specifically with the Mike Farmington double tapper disc.
If you are a pro or a hobbyist who does a fair amount of case work ,This thing will change your life, I S##t you not.
With a couple of disclaimers
* it is worth every penny of the price. Although it may be pricey for an occasional hobbyist
* because of the cone shape, I feel like it is not designed to be used as a traditional disk Sander and you might be disappointed bought it for that purpose.
*if you use it in conjunction with your rip fence it will sand any surface to a crisp smooth 90degree, or any other angle for that matter.
Great for glue lines.
I purchased it to sand the edged of sheet goods when I was building a metric butt ton of cabinets for my finished basement and u like marks walnut garage steps .I went quite the other direction and made the styles and rails for the shaker style doors out of 3/4 ply.
I used the sanding disk to sneak up on the final width and get those edges smooth enough for paint.
So if baby smooth, accurate, crisp edges on just about any material you can push through a table saw sounds good to you, I recommend checking this tool out.I promise you won’t be disappointed. It may not be a cheap tool but i bet it cost less than a festool sander with that fancy edge guide they sell . And in my opinion it is a better tool for the job.
Thanks for showing Mike Farringtion some love I am a big fan of his you tube channel.
And thank you for this huge library of pod casts that are helping to keep my sanity on my long drives.
